Norman's History

Norman was founded during the April 1889 Land Run. It was incorporated as a city in 1891. Two prominent businessmen, Delbert Larsh and Thomas Waggoner, began petitioning the territorial government to make Norman the home of the first university of Oklahoma, and they were successful in their bid in December of 1890. Over the decades, the university has helped Norman grow very quickly.
