Edmond's History

In 1887, the Santa Fe rail line established The Edmond Burdick water station for its steam engines at the highest point in its line in Oklahoma County. When the land was settled two years later in the Oklahoma Land Run, settlers decided to keep the name, creating the town of Edmond. In 1890, a teaching university was established in Edmond, and today, Edmond is home to two colleges, the University of Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Christian University.
