About Del City OK

Del City is located in Oklahoma County and is a part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. It is located near Interstate 40 and Interstate 35, allowing Del City residents to quickly commute to different parts of Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas. Tinker Air Force Base is also located near Del City. Other local employers include Midwest Regional Medical Center and Rose State College. In May of 1999, Del City was one of the areas hit hardest by the F5 tornado that blew through Oklahoma City.

Del City's History

Del City was originally founded as Boone Township. In 1946, developer George Epperly purchased around 160 acres in the area and began building houses on the land. In 1948, it was incorporated, and in 1959, the official Del City charter was adopted. The town was named after Delaphene Campbell, Epperly’s daughter. After several different land purchases and annexations, Del City expanded to its greatest physical limits in 1964.
